Description
This clip is taken from a 1943 broadcast of the Amos N Andy radio show, featuring many prominent guests but also James Baskett, who was a cast member at the time and also Uncle Remus in the Disney film Song of the South, who made "Zip-a-dee-doo-da" a famous song. He was the first black man to win an Academy Award for his stellar and heart warming performance, which unfortunately is unseen today because of the banning of the film, beyond the song that remains his only legacy.
This is his performance of "Zip-a-dee-doo-da" as featured on radio, and my tribute to a fantastic performer who, thanks to censorship, now goes largely unknown and unappreciated. This one's for James.
