Another vid I’ll add to the ongoing series of “I can’t play like Bill Ward to save my ass”. #zakkwylde Zakk Wylde's / Zakk Sabbath's version of War Pigs - with absolute respect and praise to the original #blacksabbath track. Many moons ago, I quit trying to cop Bill Ward’s vibe. He is so damn unique. Instead, as I learned Sabbath songs way back, I leaned more toward the Aldridge and Catillo interpretations of Sabbath’s material and was fortunate enough to have people around me during those years who encouraged an interpretation of these songs rather than asking for a true "cover". So, I just ran through this a few times to try and make sure the timing was OK with Zakk Sabbath's version, used two cameras and about just used the ride shot only but used two so I'd at least keep the energy up and hit record. There are less than perfect moments and a few I'm OK with but I’m getting more and more comfortable with trying to keep a clean & polished mix but not at the expense of maintaining a live type vibe. And I would straight up fight to get a gig with Zakk in BLS or Zakk Sabbath. I keep putting together an audition or sorts on here should he ever look.

To me, War Pigs has a structure where everyone can take sections out for a stroll. Drums can go hog wild and then drop back to groove as can bass and guitar (obviously LOL!!!). I cannot express how f’n much I love that. All musicians can make this track their own in so many ways. Nothing will ever compare to the original for me but I enjoy playing this song to this day – and I’ve played it (like so many of you) over and over and over and over.
