Description
Written by Marcus Valle and Paulo Sergio Valle. Produced by Creed Taylor
Two of the leading exponents of 60s’ Brazilian combine on this classic disc that reached #26 on the Hot-100 as summer was coming to an end in 1966.
Rio De Janeiro native Marcus Valle cut his second album, “O Compositor e o Cantor” in 1965 and it featured “Samba de Verão”. He has had an extensive career as a songwriter, singer and record producer.
Walter Wanderley hails from Recife on the north east coast of Brazil and became a nationally known musician by the late 50s; releasing his first album. “Festa Dançante” in 1959. By the mid-60s his fame had spread internationally and he released six albums on the US Verve label. The first of these, “Rain Forest”, which reached #22 on the US album chart, featured his instrumental version of “Samba de Verão”.
On 45, Walter’s recording was backed by a version of the Tony Hatch song, “Call Me”; a #22 hit for Chris Montez earlier in the year. Sadly, we lost Walter Wanderley in 1986 at the way-too-young age of 54.
