Description
The Servant of the Lord we met in Isaiah 42 is back and more of His mission will be revealed in this section. The Servant, of course, is identified by the authors of the New Testament as the Lord Jesus Christ. We see Christ’s work clearly in the assignment given to the Servant by the Lord through Isaiah. He was to “bring back Jacob…and gather Israel” to the Lord in Zion. And regathering Israel was “too small a thing” for the Servant in God’s eyes, so He also would “make Him a light for the Gentiles that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth” (cf. Isa 49:5,6).
