Remote recorded in California during the COVID pandemic quarantine, The Quarantet Project is the debut modern jazz music album from bassist and composer Spee Kosloff. From April 2020 to July 2021, Kosloff and his collaborators (saxophonist Tim Shaghoian, guitarist Chris Janzen, and drummer Antonio Montañez) remotely and sequentially recorded their parts in five original jazz compositions – which were then combined to make the album. Recordings occurred in three California cities: Fresno, Clovis, and Vallejo. The multimedia format blends audio and visual components, with the intention of showing that – despite barriers across time and space created by a global pandemic – creative musical collaboration and improvisation can occur with a live, interactive sensibility and impact. This art is especially for you if you enjoy musicians like Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Keith Jarrett’s American quartet, Pat Metheny’s Song X, and/or other players and works in those veins.

Compositions, artwork, and audio and video editing are attributed to Kosloff, audio production to Montañez (Studio Dorsia), and animated graphic design to Shmedley Frodeman. Tom Alvi Wilson (aerophone) makes a guest appearance on the track “Headnoise.”

The Quarantet Project is dedicated to the memory of my father, Alan Kosloff (1946-2021), as well as two extraordinary friends and mentors we recently lost: Bob Levine (1945-2019) and Brian Hamada (1960-2018).
