Description

Eorayeon Pond which is famous for an attraction for rafting is the valley which is located in the upstream approximately 12 kilo meters of the Dong River flowing along the east of Yeongwol. Going up the course of the river, the meandering current along the mountain widens out and flows slowly into the river, forming a sort of a pond.
Eorayeon Pond is named because there have been many fish in the pond from old times and the scales of fish in the water glitter as if were a texture of silk. Also, legend has it that the phantom of King Danjong who had died at an earl age wanted to live like Shinseon, a Taoist hermit with miraculous powers in this place which has been noted for its beautiful scenary the most and a shoal of fish welcomed the king in a line and as a consequence, the whole area was like a pond covered with the scales of those fish. The name of Eorayeon Pond was originated from such legend.

Eorayeon Pond, a colony for wild animals along with the primeval scenery of nature is an area which bears an ecological conservation value and shows a variety of plant communities, adding to the value of a scenic site.
