Dr. Leroy Calliste, better known as Black Stalin, has died at the age of 81. He was a legendary calypsonian from San Fernando, known for his lyrics against European colonial oppression. Throughout his career, he won the Calypso Monarch competition on five occasions. He was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) in 1987 and Calypso King of the World title in 1999. In 2008, he was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West Indies.
