After four years in the soil, the long-awaited second album by The Vegetable Plot is ready to burst out of the ground and fill your ears with delicious music, tasty tunes and rotten puns.

'Season Two' is chock-full of songs about vegetables, bedtime routines, more vegetables, community gardens, farmer’s markets, yet more vegetables, urban living, alien worlds, the cycles of life, herbs and spices, and all the essential vegetables you’ll need for Christmas dinner - red cabbage and potato.

THE ROOTS OF THE VEGETABLE PLOT

Blues guitarist, songwriter and singer Luke Escombe (aka ‘Aspara Gus’) was inspired to create The Vegetable Plot after becoming a father in 2013. He says: “My life changed when I became a Dad. I’d just regained my health after years of chronic illness and decided I didn’t want to be out on the road trying to be a rockstar any more. Instead I wanted to use music in the cause of health and education, to make a better world for my son”.

The Vegetable Plot won the award for Best Kids Show at the 2014 Sydney Fringe and released their debut album Season One in 2015. Among the special guests on this first platter were the four soon-to-be-ARIA-award-winning singers of folk group All Our Exes Live In Texas.

Since those early sproutings the band has slimmed down to the 3-piece of ‘Aspara Gus’, ‘Ru Barb’ and ‘Sir Paul McCarrotney’, to become a lean, green, nationally-touring machine. In 2019 alone they have played at the The National Folk Festival, Woodford Planting, Queenscliff, Sydney Comedy Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and at schools, libraries and community events across NSW and Victoria, while Escombe himself has become an in-demand keynote speaker, telling the story of how The Vegetable Plot grew out of his 25 year struggle with an illness called Crohn’s Disease. He is now an ambassador for Crohn’s and Colitis Australia and has shared his story at events on 4 different continents.
