Sirius is a binary star system made of Sirius A, which is twice as massive as the Sun, and Sirius B, a smaller white dwarf star!

Sirius, a super-bright binary star
Can be seen all over Planet Earth no matter where you are
It's hanging out 8.6 light years away
That's roughly 52 trillion miles, you can't get there in a day
Located in Canis Major
Topic of many scientific papers
It's a binary system labeled Sirius A and Sirius B
These two stars orbit each other
They're a part of a large star cluster
Sirius is pretty famous dating back to ancient history

The ancient Greeks called Sirius the "Dog Star", and because it marked the beginning of their warmest season, it's where the phrase "dog days of summer" comes from!

Worshipped by the Ancient Egyptians
They thought it was a goddess that would
Give their land fertility
There's a ton of other religions
Where Sirius has a high position
You could call it a famous star or celestial celebrity
