Description
This is the LOST Anthem of the Philippines - and you probably never heard of it. In fact, this song that is playing right now isn't entirely original. Composed by Julio Nakpil at the request of the leader of the Katipunan, Andres Bonifacio himself, in 1896 during the first year of the Philippine Revolution, it was titled "Marangál na Dalit ng̃ Katagalugan," or "Honorable Hymn of the Tagalog Nation”. However, after Emilio Aguinaldo became president and approved to execute Andres Bonifacio, Aguinaldo requested a new anthem to Julian Felipe, which is now the Philippine Anthem sung today. Unfortunately, Julio Nakpil’s original records of the song were destroyed during World War 2, and what we hear now is but his reconstruction of the song from memory.
