Description
Cover of the classic Motown single by the Jackson 5, as recorded by Wilton Felder on the 1969 release.
There's a lot of confusion about who actually played this iconic bass line. Some say it was James Jamerson, while others believe it was Jermaine Jackson, since he is seen playing bass in the videos. But the truth is that this unique bass line was recorded by Wilton Lewis Felder a musician whose primary instrument was the saxophone (!) and also the future founding member of the legendary Soul band "The Crusaders". A true demonstration that if you have groove in you, it doesn’t matter which instrument you play.
Perhaps the fact that it was recorded by someone who usually plays a melodic instrument contributed to its flowing, melodic parts, seamlessly moving between chords.
