The 1964 studio album "Getz/Gilberto" is a jazz-bossa nova album by American saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto, featuring the vocals of Astrud Gilberto on the track "The Girl from Ipanema". This album became one of the best-selling international jazz albums of all time. Gilberto’s vocal style has been described as vibrato-less, slightly intentionally off key with a deliberate dead pan delivery. Gilberto’s height of her popularity and fame was during the 1960s.
“The Girl From Ipanema” is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song written in 1962 music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. It was originally written in Portuguese and English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel. This version was the first commercial recording of the song becoming a huge international hit. Enjoy!
