The Dubliners' Hometown LP, and Ronnie Drew's Patrick Kavanagh story, are spoiled by the fact the Raglan Road fades out at the end of side one, and fades in again at the beginning of side two, with two and a half lines missing from the last verse. It's a complete omnishambles and a real shame.
Luke's vocal from the rare version of Raglan Road on the Canadian version of the 'At Home with The Dubliners' LP is roughly from the same time period and not too dissimilar from the Hometown version (I presume the same version is on the B side of the 'Scorn Not His Simplicity' single). I used about 24 seconds of vocals from that version to 'complete' the Hometown version. I did not copy the instrumentation from that version, I used the vocals only. The missing instrumentation was duplicated from the Hometown version itself.
The results are almost seamless but are not intended to fool anyone. It is just intended to give an uninterrupted magical listening experience that is sadly lacking on the original LP.
