A promise by Luke Kelly to establish a fund for brain research is being followed up by The Dubliners.
Singer musician and fromer member of The Dubliners Luke Kelly died on 30 January 1984. During his time in Richmond Hospital being treated for a brain tumour, he promised that if he ever got out of hospital, he would set up a fund to raise money for brain research. While Luke Kelly did not get the opportunity to make this happen, members of The Dubliners have come together to honour the promise.
They want to inaugurate a fund for brain research in his memory. It will be called the Luke Kelly Memorial Fund for Brain Research.
The fund will be launched at a concert next week at the National Concert Hall. The concert will feature a performance from The Dubliners and will be compered by Niall Tóibín. Ahead of the concert, The Dubliners perform ‘The Button Pusher’.
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 19 May 1984. The presenter is Gay Byrne.
