Hawaiians have used fishponds for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. They built large fishponds in the ocean as well as on land. Many of them can be really hard to get close to because they are on private land. Luckily the Huilua fishpond at Kahana Bay is easy to access. Unfortunately, the Moliʻi fishpond is impossible to see from any public locations. This large fishpond is heavily used to this day. The Huilua fishpond has been damaged many times of tsunamis, but was recently restored.
