Description

The Dubliners perform 'The Auld Triangle' at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin.

Introducing an a cappella version of 'The Auld Triangle', singer and musician with Irish traditional/folk group The Dubliners Luke Kelly dedicates the song to Brendan Behan who died in 1964,

We'd like to sing that in memory of Brendan Behan, because he was a great character, a great human being.

'The Auld Triangle' was written by Dick Shannon about life in Dublin's Mountjoy Prison. Brendan Behan made the song famous when he included it in his 1954 play 'The Quare Fellow'.

Ronnie Drew left The Dubliners in 1974 to spend more time with his family. For the next five years he was replaced by Jim McCann.

In May 1979, celebrating the return of Ronnie Drew to the group, The Dubliners held a concert at the Gaiety Theatre. The lineup is Barney McKenna, Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew and John Sheahan. RTÉ Television recorded this concert and broadcast highlights from it the following year.

'The Dubliners at the Gaiety' was broadcast on 8 March 1980.
