NASHVILLE, TN – October 12, 2021 – Award-winning pianist and composer Paul Cardall released new music November 5 with "Thanksgiving," the third single from his much-anticipated contemporary classical piano project December. The album is released globally on December 3, 2021 on All Heart Publishing distributed by Symphonic.

One of the biggest streaming artists of our time, Paul is a Dove Award-winning pianist, composer and producer, whose music has been streamed over 3 billion times. He has had 11 #1 Billboard albums, and is one of the highest streamed artists in the world with 30 million monthly listeners from more than 160 countries and has 2.8 million subscribed fans to his various social media platforms.

"Thanksgiving" is a piece composed in Paul's minimalistic piano style. "When composing the music for this particular piece, I thought of my family and other friends who are missing loved ones during one of the most beautiful holidays in America," explains Cardall. "Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all our blessings. Gratitude produces humility, which I believe is strength under control. Grief certainly brings us to our knees. When my younger brother died while I was in the midst of heart failure and waiting for a heart transplant, a family member went to inform our grandmother. They found her on her knees thanking God for the gift and blessing of knowing her grandson. In that spirit, my composition Thanksgiving is a reflection of ironies in life and those we are grateful for knowing, though they are gone."

"The compositions on December feel very autobiographical. I went into the studio without any preconceptions, but I knew I wanted to experiment with a minimalist approach of classical piano style. It's introspective with exquisite melodies accompanied by soothing string arrangements. The music is deeply emotional, particularly because our world is in commotion and music has the power to heal hearts. I try to utilize the space between the notes like our lungs expanding in and out, our hearts beats pointing in and out, flowing with a perfect yin yang."

Earlier this year Cardall released a joint album/book project titled The Broken Miracle, featuring special guests including David Archuleta, Tyler Glenn (Neon Trees), Ty Herndon, Rachel Yamagata, Thompson Square, Matt Hammit and many others. The Broken Miracle chronicles his life dealing with a congenitally defective heart, through his transplant 12 years ago. Cardall is also the host of a successful podcast, All Heart, and a YouTube series All Heart Adventures, featuring Cardall in various "bucket list" scenarios--living his life to the fullest, with gratitude and appreciation.

ABOUT THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in the United States, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Liberia. It began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Similarly named festival holidays occur in Germany and Japan.

ABOUT MINIMAL CLASSICAL PIANO
Minimal music is a form of art music or other compositional practice that employs limited or minimal musical materials. Prominent features of minimalist music include repetitive patterns or pulses, steady drones, consonant harmony, and reiteration of musical phrases or smaller units.

The approach originated in the New York Downtown scene of the 1960s and was initially viewed as a form of experimental music called the New York Hypnotic School. In the Western art music tradition, the American composers La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Philip Glass are credited with being among the first to develop compositional techniques that exploit a minimal approach. The movement originally involved dozens of composers, although only five (Young, Riley, Glass, and later John Adams) emerged to become publicly associated with American minimal music; other lesser known pioneers included Pauline Oliveros, Phill Niblock, and Richard Maxfield. In Europe, the music of Ludovico Einaudi, Louis Andriessen, Karel Goeyvaerts, Michael Nyman, Howard Skempton, Éliane Radigue, Gavin Bryars, Max Richter, Steve Martland, Henryk Górecki, Arvo Pärt and John Tavener exhibits minimalist traits.

It is unclear where the term minimal music originates. Steve Reech has suggested that it is attributable to Michael Nyman, an assertion that two scholars, Jonathan Bernard, and Dan Warburton, have also made in writing. Philip Glass believes Tom Johnson coined the phrase.
