This march, famously associated with the Nazi Waffen-SS during World War II, is based musically on the earlier “Lied der Legion Condor” (Song of the Condor Legion), composed by Luftwaffe pilots Wolfram Philipps and Christian Jährig . The lyrics depict SS soldiers proudly marching into enemy territory, singing a “devil’s song.” They boast of fighting relentlessly, representing German supremacy, and waging war against what they call the “red plague” .
