Description
Glam Rock was rampant in the early 70's thanks to David Bowie and a host of glam rock bands including The Sweet, or in the US just Sweet. Their classic line-up consisted of lead vocalist Brian Connolly, bass player Steve Priest, guitarist Andy Scott, and drummer Mick Tucker and were originally called The Sweetshop.
Formed in 1968 London, they had their first hit in the UK with "Funny Funny" in 1971 in the Archies (Sugar Sugar) mode. Then they teamed up with Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman who brought a surprising jolt of rock to their sound. They had their first #1 UK with "Block Buster" and then three #2 songs UK followed, Hell Raiser, The Ballroom Blitz and Teenage Rampage.
In the US they established themselves with "Little Willy" a #3 Hot100 hit in 1972.
The Ballroom Blitz went #1 in many countries except that the US it went top 5 followed by "Fox On The Run" in 1975, both of those songs were on their "Desolation Blvd" album.
This is a fun song that sports crowds have picked up on and the rockin' tune is a guaranteed floor filler.
They had a change of style in 1978 with Level Headed going in a more rock direction with "Love Is Like Oxygen" a personal favorite of mine and a #8 Hot100 hit.
