Walking at dawn along the Onigajo Cliffs, part of the coastal Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route with ocean views in Mie, Japan. I woke up early to walk along this coastal trail, with unique rock formations and beautiful sea views. The sky was unusual this morning, with a lot of haze and particulate matter from a recent volcanic eruption, but that made for a spectacular sunrise as I walked back along the cliffs. The sea was calm, but there are still some nice ocean sounds along the walk, with waves crashing up against the rocks, sea birds overhead, and a few boats off in the distance.

This coastal trail sits along the Kumano Kodo, a UNESCO listed pilgrimage route spanning over the southern Kansai prefectures of Mie, Nara, and Wakayama. There is a network of routes to 3 main shrines in the area, with this stretch including the Onigajo Cliffs being on the Iseji Route.
