Description
Originally, I played drums on “Open Arms” for the Journey ESCAPE album in 1981. It’s a song I always enjoyed playing live with Journey. I loved the slow tempo, wide dynamic range and Steve Perry always delivered an inspired vocal. Once Vital Information keyboardist Manuel Valera came up with a jazz-rock version of “Don’t Stop Believin,’” the next Journey song we thought about playing was “Open Arms.”
The song makes a fantastic piano trio song and it’s a wonderful feature for our virtuosic bassist Janek Gwizdala. We recorded, and filmed, this rendition June 29, 2023 at Studio Mozart in Little Falls, NJ for our NEW PERSPECTIVE album - streaming everywhere now and available as an ATMOS mix, CD and vinyl LP:
