The Spring Festival Overture is the first movement of Li Huanzhi's representative work Spring Festival Suite, which depicts the yangge dance during the Spring Festival. The music takes in elements of the folk suona tunes of northern Shaanxi, while embracing the traditional gongs and drums usually played during a robust yangge dance. The middle part of the piece is a gracious narrative adopted from the northern Shaanxi folk songs.
