Tuning: E flat
Written by: Tony Iommi, Geezer Bulter, Ozzy Osbourne, and Bill Ward

Black Sabbath Volume 4 was released in 1972 and produced by guitarist Tony Iommi. Volume 4 is highly regarded as one of the major high points of the Ozzy Era. As usual, critics panned the album, but that didn't stop fans from buying it. It sold 500,000 copies in less than 1 month after its release. Tony Iommi the riff master laid down some legendary heavy metal guitar playing. The rhythm section of Bill Ward and Geezer Butler was super locked in and precise. Volume 4 was voted 48th best heavy metal record of all time from Kerrang magazine.

In this lesson, I want to focus on an approach I use when learning a new song. When I do a listen through, I count the number of different parts or changes in the song. For example, the intro riff or chords would be part 1, verse part 2 etc. With this particular song there are 6 different part or sections, minus the outro guitar solo. For me, this makes learning a new song less intimidating. My brain see's this as, "I only have to learn 6 different parts then I have the whole song finished".

Often times an intro riff is the same as the verse or chorus. Learning the first 1 or 2 parts sometimes covers 50-60% of the song. I'm half way there! It's a way to organize and and have a frame of reference.

I hope you guys enjoy the lesson. Don't forget to subscribe and send some lesson requests in the comments section. Thanks everybody.
