The very definition of yearning in song, “Si tu savais” was written by Danish-born singer, composer and guitarist Georges Ulmer sometime between 1938 and 1944 -- he recorded a vocal version, but it was never officially released. It became a hit for Django Reinhardt & le Quintette du Hot Club de France avec Stephane Grappelli, who created the first recording in 1947.
