About the Artist:
Shawnee Kish is a Mohawk singer-songwriter from Canada who identifies as two-spirit. Originally from Welland, Ontario, and now based in Edmonton, Alberta, she has become one of Canada's most celebrated Indigenous artists. Shawnee is a Juno Award nominee for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year at the 2022 Juno Awards for her self-titled debut EP. She made history as the first Indigenous artist to win CBC Music's Searchlight competition in 2020 for her song "Building a Wall," and was subsequently selected for the Allan Slaight Juno Master Class program for artist development in 2021.

Presented by the Downie Wenjack Fund and Canada's Music Incubator (CMI), the Kamamooshkaming Sagiiwehwining Indigenous Music and Arts Festival brought together prominent and emerging Indigenous artists, featuring live performances, cultural workshops, an artisan market, and presentations by Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and creators. This celebration of Indigenous culture and creativity provided a powerful platform for artists like Ila to share their stories and connect with community.
