Description
American ragtime composer Scott Joplin’s “Fig Leaf Rag” was written and published in 1908, during his New York City period in which he tried to procure enough funding to publish and stage an opera. The “Fig Leaf Rag” is one of Joplin’s most difficult ragtime pieces, owing to the passages in the second and third strains consisting of bouncing octaves and thirds. As for the structure, the piece is in ABACD form, containing five sections with four strains. It begins in B-flat Major, and progressively modulates to E-flat Major by the second to last strain.
