The Petrushka Project is an unprecedented international live concert and commissioning initiative presented by Schott Music, boasting premieres of 75 solo piano pieces by a wide range of composers around the world. The Project affords a rare and unique opportunity for the infusion of a huge variety of new piano works into the international repertoire. Composers from 26 countries took part in Petrushka Project 2012, and the Project will be continued in the coming years.
"I am not really a composer: I just go through the motions. I like notating music and because it is too boring to copy scores by other authors, I invent my own pieces which masquerade as compositions. The piano piece "Schott-isches Lied" is a musical caricature. The reference of the admittedly unoriginal title is easy to deduce. It is possibly actually a dance, but a very slow one: it is not easy to move fast while stemming a massive tree trunk. The piece is not overtly difficult as long as the pianist is able to stifle his laughs during performance." (Herbert Rosendorfer, July 2012)
