Scarborough Fair é uma canção tradicional inglesa de autoria desconhecida, com raízes que remontam ao século XVII – uma variante da balada escocesa "The Elfin Knight" (Child Ballad No. 2), registrada pela primeira vez em manuscritos datados de cerca de 1670.
A letra clássica apresenta uma narrativa de amores desencontrados que impõem tarefas impossíveis um ao outro, embaladas pelo refrão “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme”, adicionado somente no século XIX.

Ao longo do tempo, o tema ganhou diversas versões. As gravações comerciais surgiram em meados do século XX — os primeiros registros incluem Gordon Heath & Lee Payant em 1955 e Audrey Coppard em 1956, seguido por Ewan MacColl e Peggy Seeger em 1957.
O folk singer Martin Carthy lançou sua versão em 1965 — e foi justamente ele quem ensinou a canção a Paul Simon, gerando o clássico Scarborough Fair/Canticle, da dupla Simon & Garfunkel, em 1966.

Mais recentemente, em 2025, aos 84 anos, Martin Carthy voltou a revisitar essa balada em seu novo álbum Transform Me Then into a Fish, incorporando elementos etéreos como a cítara, numa releitura que une tradição e inovação sonora.

Nesta versão de Thayze Rapunzel, Scarborough Fair ressoa como uma ponte entre épocas – uma homenagem à ancestralidade do folk e à potência da renovação artística, como toda boa viagem pelo tempo e a emoção deveria ser. 🌿✨
