SHORT SUMMARY
Music genre: Improvised jazz / Folk / Balkan

An original band, composed of 2 clarinet masters and 1 drummer, researches, experiments and blows a hybrid music that sails between dancing tunes and melancholic ballads, Brittany, Balkan, free and jazz sounds.

CABARET ROCHER TRIO BIOGRAPHY
Etienne Cabaret & Christophe Rocher are both multi-clarinetists from Brittany, West of France. They have a large fan following in France, collaborated with various renowned musicians and traveled worldwide with their duo set up.
They're now presenting a new original line-up: 2 clarinetists and 1 drummer. The band has created a mixed repertoire fusing Breton traditional folk music with modern, free jazz, tinged with imaginary sound textures that only improvisation can reveal. The result is a free, hybrid music that moves between danceable tunes and melancholy ballads, between Breton, Balkan, free and jazz sounds.

MUSICIANS BIOGRAPHY

Étienne CABARET
Widely known for his mastery of the traditional Breton clarinet, Étienne CABARET has developed an electro-acoustic bass clarinet sound that flirts with jazz and improvised music. He created the Compagnie des Musiques Têtues and plays with Moger, Arn, Gosseyn, Dièse3, ... and thus circulates his musical practice between a multitude of genres, at the edge of world music and traditions but always with a modern and uncomplicated approach.
He is a member of the groups MOGER (brass rock, with Dylan James, Franco-English bass singer), ARN' (fest-noz), BÊTEP (film-concert "Le Chemin de l'arc-en-ciel") and the trio DIESE3 (which has been performing at festoù-noz and festivals in Brittany and abroad for over 10 years). He also joined the group GOSSEYN, led by Joachim Mouflin. For 5 years he played in NIRMAAN with Parveen Khan.

Christophe ROCHER
Creator and artistic director of the jazz large ensemble Nautilis, he defends a certain idea of improvisation: free, decompartmentalized and generous. For 25 years, the clarinetist has played with the greatest jazzmen, including Bernard Lubat, Hamid Drake, Rob Mazurek and Steve Coleman, and created his own music with Ensemble Nautilis. Today, he heads up an international exchange program between Brest (France), Chicago and Brazil, as well as a series of projects that blend art and science, an approach evocative of the idea that music has no borders.
"The music flows, breathes, and the speech is fluid. An improvised music without blinkers, with an asserted taste for melodies and rhythms born of original timbre combinations. One thing is certain: Christophe Rocher has climbed to the top of the list of French clarinetists who count." Thierry Giard - Culture Jazz

Nicolas POINTARD
has played alongside Césarius Alvim, Steve Mc Craven, Guillaume Orti, Benoît Delbecq, Carlos Zingaro, Fabrizio Cassol...
With the groups Oko, Shampoing, Art ensemble of Brest or Rah-slup, he develops a drumming style combining timbral research and polyrhythmic combinations; an approach that he also applies to other aesthetics (pop, rock, Breton music, electronic...) with the groups Moger, Faro, Naab or Faustine, or to other disciplines (theater, dance, silent film) with the DéKoeff show, the Hiatus company, For trink 4tet...
Placing improvisation at the heart of his practice, he also works on writing and arranging, and has composed for Farokestra, Apsis, Rah-slup and Nautilis' "evergreen" creation.
A sought-after musician in Brittany, he also plays with other inter-regional and international groups (Bonadventure Pencroff, Ayrad trio, Kami octet, Third coast ensemble…).
