***A message from your Bandits***
OK, real talk. When we submitted our last Tiny Desk Contest entry in March of 2020, we were doing our best to project confidence and courage in the face of a global crisis that had us Bandits (and probably most people out there) increasingly questioning humanity’s ability to work together and tackle the gargantuan challenges that lie before us.

We had just embarked on our biggest tour yet, with dates planned in Nashville and New Orleans, SxSW and the Kennedy Center, all of which were canceled in the span of a few days — so we went off to a cabin in the woods to lick our wounds and try to write some songs. We were heartbroken and totally lost. We had no idea how to start picking up the pieces and get moving again. “Reach Back” came from that feeling: wanting so desperately to know the way forward, but being unable to see what comes next. It’s about the futility of searching for answers in the past… and the vast possibility of paths ahead if we can turn our eyes beyond the horizon, and live in the big questions. Yeah, we couldn’t help going epic and getting all intergalactic — we needed an escape from the tiny corner of the physical world we’d been relegated to.

As time progresses, we see more and more folks taking on big questions and seeking radical solutions outside the box. We see frustration with the status quo pour out into the streets. We see a deep desire for change, and we feel that too. This song is for those dreamers. And for all of us to start dreaming bigger and bigger. We stand in solidarity with anybody who believes in radically transforming the system and reimagining our world, from changing the very structure of the criminal justice system, to turning your rooftop into a garden, to envisioning a post-capitalist world order. It’s possible and the other side is yet to come!
