Trust is the sixth track on Prince’s eleventh album Batman (the motion picture soundtrack to the Tim Burton movie Batman). In 1989.
The vocals on the album are credited to a character from the movie, as if Prince is singing on their behalf. Trust, like Electric Chair and Partyman, is attributed to The Joker. The line ("Who do ya trust if you can’t trust God? Who can you trust - who can ya? Nobody.") is attributed to Prince.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in March 1989 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions that produced Partyman and Batdance). The song was submitted to replace 200 Balloons in the Batman movie, during The Joker’s balloon parade (Baby I’m A Star had initially been used by the filmmakers to suggest what they wanted), and the filmmakers thought it worked better in the scene than the previously-submitted song, so it was included in the movie and on the album.
