This extraordinary concert presents sacred songs of the various linguistic communities of Istanbul, where different beliefs and rituals are expressed according to the rules of the Ottoman art music modal system called makâm.
Songs in Turkish, Greek, Hebrew, Armenian, Arabic, and Persian are transcribed and translated in CC / Subtitles. Texts transcribed and translated by Giovanni De Zorzi, Kudsî Erguner, Roderick Grierson, Piergabriele Mancuso.
The performers are some of the best students from Bîrûn, a project founded and directed by Kudsi Erguner in collaboration with Giovanni De Zorzi and Giovanni Giuriati since 2012.
Sacred Songs from Istanbul was organized by the Intercultural Institute for Comparative Music Studies at Fondazione Giorgio Cini.
