Here's the next lockdown video from the Down for the Count Concert Orchestra - our isolated take on Duke Ellington's "Don't Get Around Much Anymore".
This is one of the tracks on our new EP, featuring 35 musicians and recorded entirely in isolation, which is raising money for the mental health charity Mind.

You can buy the EP from our Bandcamp store and all money raised is split between the charity and the musicians involved - the minimum price is £5 but you can pay more if you like!
You can also sign up to Down for the Count's Mailing List to find out when you can come and see us live:

On Bandcamp you can pay what you want for the EP - so you can do more to support the work of Mind and also help the musicians who were involved in the project.
All 5 songs on the EP were recorded entirely in isolation - in total, 35 musicians took part from England, Scotland, France and the USA. We’ll be sharing videos of the other tracks over the coming weeks!
The song we know nowadays as "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" actually started life as "Never No Lament", written by Duke Ellington as a soloing vehicle for his alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges, who played such a big part in making "the Duke Ellington sound" (Ellington actually based the composition around one of Hodges' solo riffs). Words were added to the tune by Bob Russell in 1942 and it became one of Duke's biggest pop hits. It has been covered countless times, including a fabulous arrangement written by Billy May for Nat 'King' Cole in the 1950s. Our arrangement of the tune borrows ideas from Duke Ellington's original, Billy May's re-arrangement, and we've also added some of our own twists - it's a bit of a fusion of different periods of swing music and we hope you enjoy it!
This is the latest video from our collaboration with the marvellous City String Ensemble. The song was orchestrated, mixed and mastered by Mike Paul-Smith with video editing by Sophie Yasmin Video Productions, vocals by Hannah Castleman and a tenor sax solo from Alex Western-King Music.
