Description
Green Matthews performance of one of England's oldest recorded songs from the start of the 13th Century, "Miri It Is While Sumer Ilast". Funnily enough it's about moaning about the weather!
Excellent musicians all, you can find out more on their website http://www.greenmatthews.co.uk/
The lyrics in Middle English are:
"Miri it is while summer ilast
With fugheles song
Oc nu neheth windes blast
And weder strong
Ei, ei! What this night is long
And ich with wel michel wrong
Soregh and murn and fast"
which means;
"Merry it is while summer lasts
With birds songs,
But now draws near the wind’s blasts
And harsh weather.
Alas, alas! How this night is long!
And I, most unjustly wronged,
Sorrow and mourn and fast."
