We found the song while heading to our honeymoon in Monhegan Maine, me and Charlie stopped in the little town of Bath Maine to do some antiquing and found this song buried in a pile of wonderful rare sheet music. This sweet song, written and self published by Portland ME songwriter Ernest Orne in 1908. Doing some research, we found Mr. Orne was a locally recognized songwriter who also worked as a printer for Maine newspapers for many years. It seems like his songs were locally popular in Maine, particularly a 1915 song called “When the Silv’ry Moon is Shining O’er the Hills of Dear Old Maine” which was briefly revived by Rudy Vallee in the early 30s. It seems like this song was one of his earlier efforts. We always love to find old songs to feature that have never been recorded before, so we hope you enjoy!
