Hey y'all! This is i guess the song people think of when they think of the allman brothers (the original allmans with duane allman and berry oakley) this was their first album and i personally don't think they had fully developed their sound and style yet. The live fillmore east is allmans at their best. but, like i said, on the live album, whipping post is over 20 minutes long. but you can hear the talent in the band in this song. and gregg allman really sounds in pain when he sings. unfortunately, my first wife did many of this things he sings about in the first part of the song. but that's another story for another time. Duane died in a motorcycle wreck in macon October 29, 1971. He was really the leader of the band. sadly, Berry oakley died in a motorcycle wreck just three blocks from where duane had died, just around 1 year later, November 11, 1972. After that, gregg and dickey tried to go on, but they became more commercial, for lack of a better word, putting out rambling man and jessica and showing up more on the record charts. but anyway, i hope you enjoy this song.
