Description

On August 4, 1981, my friends and i saw the legendary Muddy Waters and his band perform live, in Chicago at Navy Pier, during ChicagoFest. It was a fantastic performance and a thrill seeing Muddy and his band live! 💙

In 2016, while walking down State Street in Chicago, I ran into Muddy while crossing the street. I looked up and there he was…larger than life. I asked Muddy if I could take his picture…he just smiled 😎. A few years ago I made this video in honor of the late, great blues man...Muddy Waters, featuring the picture I took that day on State Street in 2016. 🎸

Additional ChicagoFest (info.) 1981 - was held at Navy Pier from July 29 to August 9, was a 12-day music festival featuring a diverse lineup of artists. Main stage performers included Aretha Franklin, Muddy Waters, Chicago, Bobby Vinton, Chaka Khan, Teddy Pendergrass, and Mickey Gilley. The festival also featured various other stages with artists like Cheap Trick, Billy Squier, and many more.

"Well, all you people,
you know the blues got soul
Well, this is a story,
a story never been told
Well, the blues got pregnant
And they named the baby
Rock and Roll

Magic Slim said it
You know the blues got soul
Pinetop said it
You know the blues got soul
Well, the blues had a baby
And they named the baby
Rock and Roll

Johnny Winter said it
You know the blues got soul
James Cotton said it
You know the blues got soul
Well, the blues had a baby
And then they named that baby
Rock and Roll

Otis Spann said it
You know the blues got soul
Queen Victoria said it
You know the blues got soul
Well, the blues had a baby
And they named him
Rock and Roll" 🎸 🇺🇸

From the "Hard Again" album recorded and produced by Johnny Winter. Released on January 10, 1977, Hard Again was Muddy's first album on the Blue Sky label after leaving Chess Records.
