Okay, now it’s the turn of the 5th live show in 2025: Michael Mayo at Fasching, in my recent hometown, Stockholm!
He is the best of my discoveries in the past few years. I believe he will get a Grammy award soon.
Someone said “He sings like an instrument,” and yeah, that’s right — he sings with perfect pitch and incredible technique.
But it’s not just his technique — his improvisation is amazing, and his original songs are beautiful. I really love him!
This was the second time I saw him, and it was also awesome.

I think Sweden is one of the most musically intelligent countries.
The audience had really good vibes and responses. I guess it’s because he did a workshop at the music university and played with a local big band, so there were so many “musicians” (including people like me).
It was amazing that a few people sang along with the improvisation in “Four”!
Mayo was laughing (me too), but it wasn’t so unexpected because he knew how the Swedish audience was.

もう最近見つけた人の中ではイチオシのMayo、きっといつかグラミーを獲るのでは、と思ってます。「楽器のように歌う」と言われる通り、とにかくピッチがパーフェクト！あとテクニックが並外れてる。それコールユーブンゲン（練習曲）ですか？っていう難しい音程とか、音程のジャンプもサラッと歌いこなす。でも上手いだけじゃない。インプロビゼーションのセンスの良さ、オリジナル曲もとてもいい。めっちゃ好き。わたしは2度目のMayoでしたが、この日のライブも本当に最高でした。

スウェーデンはとても音楽偏差値の高い国だなぁと思っているのですが、前回もそうだったけど、今回も観客のレベルが高い。たぶん去年の夏王立音大でワークショップをやったりノルボッテン・ビッグバンド（スウェーデン北部のビッグバンド）と共演したりしたので、音大の学生さんやミュージシャン（わたしレベルを含め）の割合がとても高かったと思う。まさか、Fourのインプロビゼーションを一緒に歌い出す人が複数いるとは！これにはMayoも笑ってた（わたしも笑ってる😆）でもMayoも観客の質が高いのをこれまでの公演で知ってて、驚きはしなかったみたい。そして、この観客のレスポンスの良さやヴァイブスをとても好きでいてくれるようで、スウェーデンを気に入ってくれていると思う。この先も地元で観られると期待。
