Description
Following Joplin's great blow at his first attempt at a major work (The Ragtime Dance,) he remained ever so diligent towards not only being recognized as a serious composer, but to bring the art of Ragtime with him. Even well into the 1920s, Waltzes & Marches themselves had never really left the public eye as with the variety of genres before them, with many musicians continuing to compose such in their own styles. So as for Joplin, despite honing most of his focuses on Ragtime, he still made due with more classic genres throughout a number of waltzes, marches & intermezzos over the years of his career including The Chrysanthemum (1904), Bethena (1905) & Solace (1909) just to name a few.
By the end of 1902, his work "March Majestic" clearly reflects on how the composer had found himself to be more than capable of working around not only syncopation, but effectively notating a wide variety of music outside of Ragtime in a organized fashion, something quite phenomenal for a black composer at the time. Although one of his more shorter works within his catalog, it is no doubt that the title clearly reflects the pride & exhilaration of this strong, yet delicate march!
