BEHIND THE SONG: LORD HAVE MERCY
Each Sunday in my church, Kim (my pastor's wife) leads us in a time of prayer for the various needs in our congregation, in our nation and around the world. Sometimes, the prayer request is for a family needing strength and comfort because of a tragic situation, and it's difficult to know how to pray. Several times I have heard Kim say, "Lord, have mercy." That's how this song was inspired. The lyrics of the chorus are, "We lift a song in the light of our need, for You are able always in all things. And in this moment, we fall at Your feet...Lord have mercy."
Sometimes we don't have the words to say, and we don't initially know how to pray for a situation that seems so beyond our control. I think it's very appropriate in those times to cry out for God's mercy. [DON MOEN]
