Nearly 80 years old, Lia de Itamaracá the Grande Dame of Popular Traditional Pernambuco Song, The Queen of Ciranda.

"Ciranda is a music that unites everybody.. Some peale don't understand what her say too, but we feel all of this energy. Lyrics and melody are a bond.

With a the distinctive, tight voice of the Pernambuco, 78-year old Lia de Itamaracá from Brazil who only come back to Stage 15 years ago but is considered the Queen of Ciranda (a lively dance).

She is a scholar of the various folk and traditional music of the region like Maxixe, Maracatu, Coco but has more recently taken this music around the world to considerable acclaim.

A voice that takes popular culture beyond Brazilian lands. Singer and songwriter, Dona Lia de Itamaracá has become a nationally recognized reference by interpreting her Ciranda of popular rhythms such as Coco, Maxixe and other Brazilian rhythms that invites the public to join the circle and have fun with the songs. To honor the artist from Pernambuco, Itaú Cultural held the exhibition Lia de Itamaracá a Rainha da Ciranda do Brasil, which ran until July 11, 2022.
