Description
John Denver wrote and first recorded 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' in 1966. Originally, he named it 'Babe I Hate to Go' though. Whilst it's one of his best known songs, when he released it as a single in 1969 it failed to make the charts. Peter, Paul and Mary, who were close friends of John's, recorded a cover version for their 1967 album, 'Album 1700'. They also released it as single in 1969, reaching the #1 spot in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In fact this song was Peter, Paul and Mary's biggest (and last) hit record.
