I first encountered the name Lauren Wood on Nicolette Larson's 'In the Nick of Time' LP in 1979. Penning two of the tracks and co-writing a third; it was the way her name was listed: 'Lauren Wood aka Chunky'. At the time I had no clue was aka was! I imagined a cuddly songwriter; turns out couldn't have been further from the truth. 'Breaking too many hearts' was one of my favorite songs on that album. 'Fallen' which is the subject of this post, was first memorialised by Nicolette, but it was Lauren's own recording which has become the best known. Used on the soundtrack for the critical and box office smash 'Pretty Woman' in 1990, Lauren Wood scored a hit with her own composition. This remix 'Master Chic' brings a suitably funky and pulsating quality to the soulful styling of Lauren's original. I own none of the pics or audio in this clip.
