Description
This is the second of two settings of The Lamentations of Jeremiah written by the Elizabethan composer Thomas Tallis (1505-1585) for the season of Lent. Set for five unaccompanied male voices, and usually performed shortly before Easter, this expressive work is amongst his final and most highly respected compositions.
Our recording was made in a single 'take' behind closed doors at the parish church of St Mary's, Twickenham, on Sunday 22 March, the day before the UK government announced its lockdown of all public gatherings. The video camera operator's sincere apologies go to Henry and Nigel, the two singers glimpsed sadly only fleetingly at the edges of the picture! Their wonderful contribution to this performance is evident throughout.
Henry Capper-Allen (countertenor)
Nick Richmond-Smith (tenor)
Ben Driver (tenor)
Jon Snow (bass)
Nigel Edwards (bass)
