This is the haunting title song from the 1954 Nicholas Ray western, written and performed by Peggy Lee. The film itself is known as a "kinky" Western in which two women have it out rather than the conventional cowboy shootout. Mercedes McCambridge's character wants Joan Crawford's saloon owner run out of town or better yet, executed. Sterling Hayden plays the title character, a drifter who wanders into town and finds himself in the middle of their feud.. I saw it years ago and liked it, but I have to admit I just love the song the most. So here is Miss Peggy Lee singing it again! Enjoy!
