Having concluded the extraordinary adventure with Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Fogerty's solo career takes on a fluctuating and discontinuous trend because, without prejudice to the authority of one of the most loved and respected musicians of all time, the Californian rocker's records have not always been all height of his name.
Having rejected the idea of reforming Creedence several times, in 1997, eleven years after his last album, Fogerty released "Blue Moon Swamp", which although not representing his artistic peak, was however a return to success, accompanied from an incredible sales response all over the world and above all from a Grammy Award won the following year as best rock album of 1997.
In “The song remains the same” the style is unmistakable, the “revival” continues to be the noble fuel of an amused and fun swamp rock, which Fogerty cuts with the sharp scalpel of his essential and cutting guitar; the voice, however, is different, clearer and less grumpy, and the songs have a sparkling sound, due to a production work that makes dust and rust disappear in favor of a decidedly radio appeal.
However, a sincere album that shows off all of Fogerty's great wisdom in reinterpreting the classic American sound, that of rock'n'roll and country roots, with Southern accents.
Songs that make the hearts of Creedence fans beat faster, in the swamp rock of "BlueBoy" (Grammy Award nomination for best male vocal performance), in the rolling country of the opening "Southern Streamline", in the blues rock with vague echoes Hendrixian "Rattlesnake Highway", in the square rock of "Walking In A Hurricane" and in the primitive one of "Hot Rod Heart", the glorious splendors of the best days relive.
From the successful promotional tour of the album, the material for the subsequent "Premonition" (1998) will emerge, an extraordinary live album, in which a Fogerty in great form retraces his entire career, between revivals of old CCR classics and new songs .
In 2017, Blue Moon Swamp, on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary, was republished with a new graphic design and two bonus tracks that neither add nor take away anything from the quality of the album.
