This song for me, means the challenge of growing up without losing yourself in the process. Finn's growth as a character and person can be said to be the most core plotline of the entire show, so I think it's appropriate that the credits song is focused on that.

So much of it reminds me of this: the "everlasting dream" being a never ending childhood that kids don't want to lose by growing up, the part about "Maybe by next summer, we won't have changed our tunes" clearly being about not wanting to lose your sense of innocence and optimism as you age, and the song as a whole is putting on a cheery sounding veneer over a child being scared of growing up and changing in the process.

I entirely relate this to Finn, maybe confiding his fears with Jake or something. I think it works really well and I'm glad it was used in the finale. It was kind of like the show saying "You did it Finn, you made it."
