Description

As i said in the description, "i don't care about music styles or genres, i only care about good music".
So, this time i add on my list a traditional song from Bulgaria with ethnic flavor and clear influences from Balkan music.

Irfan is a Bulgarian band founded in 2001 in Sofia. The band's name is taken from the Arabic/Persian word "Irfan", meaning "gnosis", "mystic knowledge" or "revelation".

Though similar in style to established bands such as Dead Can Dance, Love Is Colder Than Death, Sarband, and Vas, Irfan is known for its extensive use of a choir of male singers in addition to the female vocals of Vladislava Todorova, and in in combination with an assortment of traditional mediaeval percussion, stringed, and wind instruments, including the darbouka, daf, bendir, oud, saz, santoor, ghaida, duduk ,and bass viol. Irfan's music and reliance on traditional instruments is based on a blend of the musical influences common to Bulgaria, and thus represents a blend of European medieval music, Balkan folk and Middle Eastern styles.

Irfan are on the rise, with "Roots" coming just three years after the band's album "The Eternal Return" - the shortest pause between two albums in their career. A few months earlier Irfan also released the single "Rusa / More, Ta Nali", which prepared fans for the release of the full album.

The music in "Roots" shows Irfan's evolution and is both a sign of the way out and a look back and deep in the roots. World Fusion melodies, typical of the magical sound, the band once again vibrating beautifully throughout the record, but all the songs are also turned towards the Bulgarian folk tradition back in the centuries - ancient and old as the ground we are stepping on. The traditional songs of the Kalkals, Duduk, Udd and Buglama, as well as the exotic musical instruments coming from Persia, Africa and Ireland, such as daphne, jambe, prickly and dabbucky, sound like in the Balkans.
