If I Could Go Back - Lyrics I wrote thinking about my kids, looking back and how fast time goes by. @WeazleTunes
If I could go back, to when my kids were young
I'd cherish it more, a different song to be sung
Little footsteps running down the hallway, always too fast to grow
Their little minds in wonder, chasing dreams they’ve yet to know
Walking across a parking lot, tiny hands in mine so tight
I’d hold them just a little longer, never let them out of sight
We never knew how fast the years could fly
Went by so quick, not a chance to say goodbye
If I could go back, for just one more day
To when my hair was dark, not showing any gray
I’d like to hold their tiny faces in my hands once again
Kiss their scraped-up knees, hear their laughter when it all began
I’d soak in every smile, every word and bewildered stare
One more day back then, I’d want to hold it there
We’d build castles out of blankets, have a tea party for two
Play hopscotch in the driveway, enjoy the time doing what they want to do
Read their favorite story without having to wait til night
Listen to them tell their tales, told with such delight
The clock would slow; the sun would wait... just for me
So I could stay right there...in that sweet eternity
If I could go back, for just one more day
To when my hair was dark, not showing any gray
I’d like to hold their tiny faces in my hands once again
Kiss their scraped-up knees, hear their laughter when it all began
I’d soak in every smile, every word and bewildered stare
One more day back then, I’d want to hold it there
I’d whisper “Don’t grow up so fast”
But I’d still let each moment pass
Knowing someday, I’d come to see
They were the best parts of me
If I could go back for just one more day
I’d take their tiny hands and never let them stray
We’d dance in the kitchen, barefoot on the floor
And I’d tell them I love them a thousand times more
I’d breathe in every laugh, every whispered prayer
One more day back then, I’d keep us there
The years keep moving, and time still doesn't wait
But in my heart, I want to go back
For one more day
