This song from The ToneWay Mountain Music Collection is based on a poem written by Willis Maberry. It is his own account of a true story. He wrote the poem during his time in prison for the murder of his brother-in-law, Tom Galbreath.

Like most of the songs from Toneway, this is new to me and this is my own interpretation of it based on the audio from Toneway.
I have changed the spelling of "Amanda Galbraith" which is the Toneway spelling to "Amanda Galbreath" which is the spelling used in the roanetnheritage site.
